What is AAKG?
AAKG, or, Arginine Alpha Ketoglutarate, is actually an amino acid compound that provides a number of benefits to the body, particularly in regards to cell volume. L-arginine is basically arginine in its natural form that is then used to create a number of dietary supplements, including AAKG. AAKG is rich in a compound known as alpha ketoglutarate, which is actually a natural derivative of glutaric acid, and is a type of salt.
How does it work?
AAKG contains different constituents, which each have different roles and functions within the human body. The alpha ketoglutarate for example, actually helps to break down certain amino acids and sugar molecules within the body. It functions as an intermediary within the citric acid cycle, which is also known as the krebs cycle. The krebs cycle is basically a selection of different internal processes which take stored glucose sugars, and break them down before converting them into Adenosine Tri-Phosphate, or ATP for short. ATP is a primary source of energy used by the muscles, so naturally the more ATP there is, the more energy the muscles will have. Not only that, but it also helps enhance cell volume via the increase in energy, which leads to more impressive muscle pumps. Plus, it has also been found to enhance nitric oxide levels, which increase vascularity, and it plays a vital role in protein synthesis.
What are the benefits of AAKG?
Increased muscle mass
As mentioned, AAKG has been found to play a key role in protein synthesis, which is basically a process in which damaged muscles take proteins and amino acids, and use them to grow and repair themselves, most commonly after a workout.
Improved blood circulation
AAKG helps to naturally increase Nitric Oxide levels within the body, which in turn leads to an improvement in circulation. This is because the compound acts as a vasodilator, which dilates the blood vessels and allows them to carry more blood through them around the body. This not only leads to impressive muscle pumps, it also leads to increased vascularity as well.
Improved athletic performance
AAKG is also thought to play a key role in athletic performance due largely to the fact that it not only helps to carry more oxygen and nutrients around the body in the blood, but also because it helps to convert glucose molecules into ATP, which the muscles then use as a key source of energy. The more energy that the muscles have, the more efficient they will be, and the more efficient your body will be as a result.
Helps to reduce blood pressure
As AAKG plays such a key role in circulation, it has actually been found to help reduce a person’s blood pressure, so individuals suffering with hypertension could benefit greatly if they chose to use this supplement.
Other benefits include:
- Better muscle pumps
- Improved circulation
- More energy
- Increased strength levels
- Increased vascularity
- Improved athletic performance
- Enhanced immune function
- And more...
How and when should it be taken?
Health Canada Recommended Dose (capsules): 4 Capsule(s) 1 - 2 time(s) per day.
Health Canada Recommended Dose (powder): Adults: 1 Scoop(s) 1 - 3 time(s) per day. Mix product well in 1-2 cups of liquid (water, juice, etc.) immediately before consumption. Store in a cool, dry place.
AAKG VS L-Arginine
L-Arginine is basically a non-essential amino acid that plays a key role in Nitric Oxide production within the human body. By combining L-Arginine with alpha ketoglutarate salt, you then benefit even further, because as mentioned, this salt helps the body to take glucose and convert it into ATP. Because of this, AAKG is considered superior, due to the fact that you not only receive all of the benefits of Nitric Oxide, but you also receive the added bonus of the ATP production.
What can you stack it with?
AAKG works very well as a pre-workout supplements, and many people actually choose to create their own formulas instead of buying ready-made ones. If using AAKG for pre-workout purposes, it is recommended that you stack it with caffeine, taurine, Citrulline Malate, and Beta-Alanine for the ultimate pre-workout formula.
